| Bird hunting is another option in the fall. The flights of Woodcock have been very good during the past few years. When the birds are in, the action can be quite exciting. Ruffed Grouse, the ultimate gamebird, are also found in good numbers. They are a challenge even for the best of shots, so be sure to bring plenty of shells. Bird hunting is done behind my German Shorthaired Pointer. She is an excellent dog with many years' experience hunting a variety of gamebirds. Do feel free to bring your own dog along, but please remember this is big country and a dog can get lost quite easily. I bird hunt in many different locations, not just the High Peaks area. I also hunt many areas within northern Saratoga and Washington counties, where it is not uncommon to run across a pheasant or two. A valid New York State small game license is required for all bird hunting. Please refer to www.dec.state.ny.us. If interested, accommadations can be arranged through High Peaks Guide Service. |
